Mutants have increased axillary branches. Along with MAX3,4 thought to mediate control of shoot branching via synthesis of a signal molecule which is transported over long distance mediated by MAX2. cDNA supports the existence of the longer transcript predicted for this locus, no cDNA isolated for shorter transcript.
