Description : (p59287|cass_ricco : 245.0) Casbene synthase, chloroplast precursor (EC 4.2.3.8) - Ricinus communis (Castor bean) & (at4g16730 : 236.0) In the Col ecotype, no functional protein is encoded at this locus due to the presence of a two-base (AT) insertion 184 nucleotides downstream of the start codon leading to a frame shift and premature translational termination. However, in the Ws ecotype, a functional terpene synthase that localizes to the chloroplast is encoded at this locus. It can catalyze the synthesis of (E)-beta-ocimene and (E,E)-alpha farnesene in vitro, but, it has more activity as an (E)-beta-ocimene synthase activity in vivo.
